Fleeing the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile, Gonzalo arrived with his family in Melbourne, Australia at the age of four. He grew up in the commission flat community and now works there to support refugee children. He has completed a Diploma of Painting at Victoria University Tafe and a Bachelor of Painting at the Victorian College of Arts.

Gonzalo has developed his own unique style and uses simple line work to portray complex issues and emotions. He explores the tender forces that draw people together, and the bleakness that accompanies the dissolution of that idyllic moment. He extends his fixation with human connections to a yearning for a different reality, and the possibility of living and breathing with those he reveres.
